Car shipping questions and answers
Straight answers about quotes, timing, insurance and getting your vehicle ready.
Quotes and booking
Is the online quote the price I will actually pay?
Yes, for the shipment you described. The quote is an all-in price based on your route, your vehicle and your dates. It changes only if those details change, for example if the vehicle turns out to be modified, oversized or not running, or if the addresses or dates are different from what you entered.
What do I need to get a quote?
The pickup and delivery ZIP codes, the year, make and model of the vehicle, whether it runs, whether you want an open or enclosed trailer, and the first date the vehicle is available. The form also asks for your name, email and phone number so we can send you the price.
How far ahead should I book?
One to two weeks is ideal on most routes. In Arizona, book earlier for fall arrivals and spring departures, when seasonal residents fill the trucks. If you need a pickup within a few days, ask about expedited service.
When and how do I pay?
Your payment terms are shown in your order confirmation before you commit to anything. If any part of it is unclear, ask us to walk you through it before you book. Getting a quote is free.
Can I change or cancel my order?
Call us as soon as your plans change. A new date or address is usually simple to handle before a carrier has been assigned. The cancellation terms for your shipment are stated in your order confirmation.
Pickup and delivery
What does door-to-door mean?
The carrier picks up and delivers at the addresses you give us. A car carrier is a very long truck, so if your street is too narrow, gated or restricted, the driver will arrange to meet you at the nearest place it can safely stop, usually within a few blocks.
Will I get an exact pickup time?
You get a pickup window first, then a closer estimate once a truck is assigned. The driver calls ahead before arriving. If you need one specific day, tell us when you request your quote.
How long will my vehicle be on the truck?
As a guide: up to 500 miles takes 1 to 3 days, 500 to 1,000 miles takes 2 to 5 days, 1,000 to 2,000 miles takes 4 to 7 days, and coast-to-coast trips take 7 to 10 days. Weather and the other stops on the route can move those numbers a little.
Does it have to be me who hands over the car?
No. Any adult you choose can release or receive the vehicle, as long as they have the keys and can sign the inspection report. Give us their name and phone number in advance.
Can I follow my shipment while it's on the road?
Yes. We send updates as your vehicle moves, and you can call us at any hour for its current status.
What happens if nobody is available on delivery day?
Tell us as early as you can and we'll work out a new time with the driver. If a delivery has to be rescheduled at the last minute, it can add days and cost, so it's worth naming a backup person when you book.
Insurance and damage
Who insures my vehicle during transport?
The carrier. Every carrier we assign holds cargo insurance that covers the vehicles on its trailer, and we confirm that the policy is active before your vehicle is loaded. You can ask us for the coverage details for your shipment.
What should I do if I notice damage at delivery?
Point it out to the driver and write it on the delivery inspection report before you sign. Photograph it. Then call us the same day. We'll help you file a claim with the carrier's insurance. Damage that isn't written on the report is very hard to claim later.
Should I keep my own auto insurance active?
Yes. Keep your policy in force while the vehicle is in transit, and ask your insurer how it treats a car being shipped. Some policies add protection on top of the carrier's coverage.
Are the things I leave in the car covered?
No. Carrier insurance covers the vehicle itself, not its contents. Ship the car empty whenever you can, and never leave valuables, documents or medication inside.
Preparing your vehicle
What should I do before the driver arrives?
Wash the car so existing marks are easy to see, and photograph it from every side. Remove personal belongings, toll transponders, parking passes and removable racks. Check for leaks, make sure the battery is charged and the tires are inflated, and run the fuel down to about a quarter tank.
Do I need to give the driver my title or registration?
No. The driver needs the keys and a signature on the inspection report. Keep your title and registration with you.
Should I turn off the alarm?
Yes. Disable the alarm, or show the driver how to silence it. An alarm that keeps going off on a trailer can drain the battery before the car is delivered.
Vehicle types
Can you ship a vehicle that doesn't run?
Yes. Mark it as not operable in the quote form. It needs to roll, steer and brake so it can be winched onto the trailer. If it can't do one of those, call us and describe it so we can send the right equipment.
Do you ship lifted trucks, duallys and other modified vehicles?
Yes. Tell us the modifications and, for anything tall or wide, the measurements. Size and weight decide where a vehicle fits on a trailer, so accurate details keep your price accurate.
Do you ship motorcycles, RVs, boats and heavy equipment?
Yes. Motorcycles can be priced in the online form. RVs, boats and heavy equipment are quoted individually by phone because the equipment and permits differ for each one.
Do you ship electric vehicles?
Yes, on the same carriers as other cars. Leave the battery about half charged, and give the driver a key card or fob and a quick explanation of how to put the car in neutral.
